Our issue areas
We believe healthy and curious minds equal strong futures
We invest in building sustainable support systems that foster mental health, wellness and literacy skills in New York City youth. Nurturing young people’s emotional resilience and appetite for learning equips them to overcome obstacles, unlock their full potential, and build healthier and more prosperous lives, both today and for their future.
We aim to invest in organizations and initiatives that work to transform these two areas of need.

Youth Literacy
Developing curious and skilled lifelong learners
Literacy skills, motivation, and access to meaningful and culturally-affirming reading materials provide young people with essential tools for communication, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. Through our grants and partnerships, we aim to support innovative efforts to address systemic barriers that prevent many young people from achieving reading proficiency and voracity.

Youth Mental Health
Supporting youth on their journey to mental health and wellness
Our grants support organizations that equip young people with the tools to navigate life’s ups and downs, fostering wellness, growth, and independence. Carmel Hill Fund mental health grantmaking focuses on ensuring youth in New York City receive supportive mental health and wellbeing programming in their schools, clinics and community spaces, as well as workforce development and social-emotional learning. We also invest in efforts to ensure cost is never a barrier to access.
